Celebrating the culmination of your High school with a photo session is the best way to preserve the memories and the person you are right at this moment, that is why senior photos are so important, fashion trends come and go but to make sure your photos can still be relevant despite time it is important to know what to wear.
Knowing what to wear for your senior photos is going to help enjoy more the session and elevate your look, here I am sharing 10 tips to help you find the best outfit for your high school senior session portrait in Atlanta
For the girls: Think flowy dresses (like the ones from Lulus, Altar’d State) or skirts with layers.
For the guys: Unbuttoned flannels or light jackets( you can find tons on Abercrombie, Hollister). When the wind catches your clothes, it adds a “candid” editorial feel that a stiff outfit just can’t match.
If you’re doing a few shots with a sibling or friend, avoid wearing the exact same color. Instead, pick a color palette (like earth tones or pastels) so you look cohesive but stay individuals.
Adding a denim jacket, a stylish blazer, or a cardigan over your base outfit gives you two “looks” in one. It’s the easiest way to add depth to your photos without a full wardrobe change.
You’ll likely be walking through fields or tall grass. Girls: Exchange the stilettos for a cute block heel or a fashionable boot.
Guys: Clean, classic sneakers or leather boots work best. Avoid the “gym shoes” look unless we’re doing sports-specific shots!
Big, bold logos or tiny, busy patterns can be distracting and can look wavy on camera. Instead, go for textures: lace, knits, linen, or denim. They look expensive and photograph beautifully in golden hour light.
Before the shoot, try on your outfit and move around. Can you sit on the ground? Can you lift your arms? If you’re constantly tugging at a neckline or worried about a hemline, it will show in your face. Comfort equals confidence!
I always recommend one timeless outfit (like a simple sundress or a crisp button-down) and one that reflects your current style . You’ll appreciate having both 20 years from now.
Camera sensors pick up every wrinkle, especially in backlight. Steaming or ironing your clothes the night before and keeping them on hangers in the car is the best way to ensure you look polished.
A simple necklace, a classic watch, or a wide-brimmed hat can elevate a look. However, try to avoid “distraction” pieces—we want the focus on your face, not a giant Statement necklace.
If you never wear a suit or a formal gown in real life, don’t feel pressured to wear one for your photos. You want to look like the best version of yourself, not a stranger!
I hope these tips help you find or at least get started on finding the perfect outfit for your session, and if you are soon to be a high school Graduate in Atlanta, Kennesaw or Marietta, I would love to help you create the best senior photos! Reach out here and let’s get the conversation started.
